I don’t have much time to write publicly anymore. I do still write privately on 750words.com fairly often. Even after 5+ years, private…free-writing is still one of my favorite activities. However, for better or worse, my thoughts don’t feel fully real to me unless I have some public feedback on them. I have that social validation disorder that seems to have gone around lately. ¶ Yesterday, I asked @tonystubblebine who I should hire as a coach.me coach to help me write more. He sent me a link, I signed up, sent an intro, and waited for my coaching to commence.

The Wiggle Theory
I love it when I arrive at the BART station just as a train pulls up, and there are SEATS! I take it as a good omen for the day, in the…sense that the omen is part of the day, and it was good. ¶ Almost 12 hours in to this experiment and I’m still excited about it. So while I have this momentum, let me tell you about one of the weirder theories that have been bouncing around in my head. ¶ I call it the Wiggle Theory of Behavior Change. ¶ As some may know, I’m rather obsessed with behavior change, and consider my life calling to endlessly ponder the question, “HOW DO WE CHANGE OURSELVES?”Buster BensonMay 21, 2015
Intentionally Unoptimized
I love the Quantified Self movement, am a product manager for Twitter Analytics, love OKRs, and tend to frame everything in terms of…metrics and data. ¶ At the same time, I’m a huge skeptic of data-driven culture, fitness trackers, A/B testing, and the statistics you hear about on tech blogs and in the mainstream news. ¶ The reason for this seeming inconsistency is that I feel like there’s a difference between data and meaning. And yet, our default assumption as an increasingly data-driven culture is to assume all data has meaning, and is worth optimizing in the “good” direction.Buster BensonMay 22, 2015
